Join Us on Sister’s Chat

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

The Sisters of Bon Secours began hosting a chat room on their vocations website on Tuesday, October 25. The chat room, entitled ‘Sister’s Chat,’ will be held weekly from 7-8 p.m. and will feature a new topic each week. Sister’s Chat has been created by the Vocations office and Sr. Pat Dowling, CBS, Vocation Director, said, “I wanted a chat room to offer women who are inquiring about a vocation an opportunity to discuss topics related to religious life and discerning one’s call to religious life.” The chat room will enable women to casually talk with some of the sisters and other young women. They will have the opportunity to candidly ask questions that they may otherwise be uncomfortable asking someone else, furthering their knowledge of religious life.

The first four weeks will feature guest Sr. Christine Webb. Sr. Chris will be taking her final vows to become a nun on November 12 and she is currently preparing for this special step in religious life. Sr. Chris’ chat room topics will include God’s Whisper (How she heard God’s calling and began her search), Family Thoughts and Preparation for Final Vows. This special feature of Sister’s Chat will provide unique insight into her voyage as she enters the final phase of formation to become a nun. “Being the first guest for the chat room is an honor and privilege,” said Sr. Chris. “It will be a wonderful new way to introduce the sisters to the world.” After her final vows ceremony she will continue her series in the chat room with: Living in Community Life. This Sister’s Chat will also provide women a unique opportunity to congratulate Sr. Chris and ask questions about her special ceremony.

Join us in our upcoming Sister’s Chats:
11/8: Preparation for Final Vows
Discover how Sr. Chris is preparing to make her perpetual profession of vows with the Sisters of Bon Secours just four days before her ceremony on November 12, 2011.
Perpetual Profession of Vows is an incredible ceremony, in which a woman asks that she be allowed to dedicate herself to God and to the building of the Reign of God by professing her vows in the Congregation of Sisters of Bon Secours for the rest of her life. It is a woman’s response to the call of God in her life.

Final vows do not happen overnight. It could take several years to reach this final occasion and much preparation must be done. What steps led Sr. Chris to this point in her spiritual journey? What final arrangements is she making in preparation of November 12th? What is involved? Who is going to attend her ceremony? Ask these questions and more during Sr. Chris’s chat on November 8th, just four days before her ceremony!

11/15: Living in Community
What is it like to live in community? What are some of the delights and challenges? Read more.
There are a variety of ways that Catholic Sisters and Nuns live in community. To speak of physical proximity, we have some Sisters who live singly, while many live with one another. We have Sisters living in several different states as well.

One common misconception is that “living in community” means living under the same roof. For nuns, that is not the case. “Community” is much broader than physical proximity.

In this Chat, Sr. Chris will help uncover what living in community truly encompasses. What are some of the surprising delights she experienced, and what are some of the challenges she faced and overcame?

They say the opposite of war is not love…it is PEACE.  And I have to say that this video, actually it is a trailer for an independent film, certainly brings light to how strongly we should be waging a campaign for Peace.  What do you think? Here is an excerpt from the Global Zero website: [...]
