Praying as a Community for Haiti

Our prayers are with those affected by last week's tragedy in Haiti

Our prayers are with those affected by last week's tragedy in Haiti

We attended a special prayer service here in our Chapel yesterday for those who have suffered from last week’s earthquake in Haiti.   Prayer is powerful and we reach out to those affected by this terrible catastrophe.

Sr. Rosemary Moynihan SC, Director of Ecology and Global Ministry, gave us an introduction to the Bon Secours mission focused on Haiti, which includes aid for immediate needs, as well as a several-year plan to support the rebuilding process.

She mentioned that we (Bon Secours) have a doctor and several nurses that are volunteering their medical skills in Haiti and encouraged our personal response through prayer and assistance.  After the service, Sr. Pat Eck, Congregational Leader, said, “They are in an absolute state of devastation and we have a responsibility to respond.”

Before leading us in prayer, Rich Statuto, CEO of Bon Secours Health System, Inc., spoke of those within the Bon Secours Health System who have been personally affected by the earthquake.  Many family members have perished or been seriously injured and been left with no home.

Please lift up your voice with us:

Compassionate God, we pray for those who have been devastated by the earthquake in Haiti.  We remember those who have lost their lives so suddenly.  We hold in our hearts the families forever changed by grief and loss.  Bring them consolation and comfort.  Surround them with our prayers for strength.  Bless those who have survived and heal their memories of trauma and devastation.  May they have the courage to face the long road of rebuilding ahead.

If you would like to financially contribute to the needs of Haiti, please consider Catholic Relief Services.  At the bottom of the online form, you can type in Haiti Relief for the special reason.

Sr. Pat -- July 15th, 2010 at 5:53 pm

HI Dionna, thank you for your comment. YOu are right, Church law requires that one be age 18 minimally, though most ocmmunities prefer that someone wait until they are at least age 21. One reason is the need for sufficient maturity, so that one understands what they are choosing and also “not” choosing. One need the ability to reason, discern, and have the skills to live community life, and engage in full time ministry. Be patient Dionna, if God is calling you, God will pursue you at age 18 or 21 too. In the meantime, enjoy all the things that you will encounter as you continue to grow and age. And, yes, let’s keep praying for the people in Haiti. Peace, Sr. Pat

They say the opposite of war is not love…it is PEACE.  And I have to say that this video, actually it is a trailer for an independent film, certainly brings light to how strongly we should be waging a campaign for Peace.  What do you think? Here is an excerpt from the Global Zero website: [...]
