As our Sisters in Formation took the tour of our Motherhouse and Motherhouse Chapel in Paris, France, a new type of reality became prevalent.  Sister Bernie remarked:
It was like going back in time walking in the footsteps of the sisters who came before us.

The creaking of the floorboards brought into existence the realities of the strong and courageous women who took care of the poor, sick and dying.  The walls and the furniture made the past real today.

The Bon Secours Chapel was the highlight of this two-hour tour.  It was more exquisite and breathtaking than pictures or imagination portray.

We also had the opportunity to hear the vocation stories of the Peruvian, Irish, and English sisters and shared our stories.

The fascinating thing we found was that while the stories took place in different places, different countries, there were many common threads.  Each story was an inspiring experience and lead us to feelings of closness and belonging to one international congregation.

PRAYER ON ASH WEDNESDAY
Jesus, in honor of the forty days
you spent in the desert praying and fasting,
we begin this season of Lent.
During this time of good works, prayer, and sacrifice
may we prepare our hearts, souls, minds and bodies for the feast of your Resurrection.
May we follow in your footsteps
as we journey with you to Jerusalem.
At each Mass that we participate in during this Lent,
may we be reminded of the Last Supper
and your gift of Eucharist.
May we continue with you
accepting those challenges that come our way.
May we stay with Mary
as she stands by your Cross.
We ask you to forgive us our faults
and thank you for the sacrifice you have made for us.
Grant us, O God, the perseverance
to strive each day of this season of Lent
to become the person you created us to be.
May our preparation for Easter
make us one with you the Risen Christ on Easter
and every day of our lives. Amen.

We recently released our video, A Mission of Hope and Healing in South Africa, to show others the dramatic needs of the South African people. These are people faced with hunger, malnutrition and even starvation. They also suffer from HIV/AIDS and there is an overwhelming population of orphans. Our sisters in South Africa provide care to many with these devastating needs while sharing their love of God in everything they do.

Our ministry began in the village of Limpopo, South Africa in June of 2008. In 2010, two sisters from the United States, Sister Vicky Segura, CBS, MD and Sister Elaine Davia, CBS, NP traveled there to assist with medical and nutritional needs. The sisters utilized their medical skills to assist many HIV/AIDS patients and were also able to help refugees, families and orphans with basic needs in the village. They share inspiring stories from their journey in this short video.

In addition to the sisters’ work in their HIV/AIDS clinic and in outreach to the people in the village that continues today, they are now educating young women in … continue reading…

In 2004, the Sisters of Bon Secours, along with Sisters from Sisters of Mercy, School Sisters of Notre Dame, and the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, joined together to address a growing need in Baltimore, Maryland.

That need translated into help and positive inte

rvention within the lives of female middle school students in the form of a new school. Now serving students in grades 5-8, the Sisters Academy strives not only to provide an excellent education for these young girls, but also to infuse a sense of spirituality and confidence in them as well.

In our world today, it is not enough to just be present. Many of the girls attending the Academy come from lower income areas, and often fall victim to circumstances that require them to react or survive. When these girls are armed with spiritual conviction and confidence that presents to them a limitless … continue reading…

What a wonderful heritage and legacy we celebrate today -  that on January 24, 1824 twelve women in Paris professed their vows as Sisters of Bon Secours and pledged to be a presence of good help to the sick and dying in their homes; something truly unheard of at that time!  Something risky yet creative.  Something that inspired other women to follow and others to seek their compassion and good help in their times of need.

The same Spirit moves among us today, calling us to a new creativity; to take new risks; to continue to meet the pressing needs of today in our world.

We give thanks for our 12 founding sisters and all those who came before us and on whose shoulders we stand.  We give thanks for all of our sisters, associates, ministry volunteers and co-workers today who generously provide compassion, healing and liberation to people in need.  And we give thanks for all those who will come and join us tomorrow and in future years to be “good help to those in need.”

Blessings and love,

Sr. Rose Marie Jasinski, … continue reading…

They say the opposite of war is not love…it is PEACE.  And I have to say that this video, actually it is a trailer for an independent film, certainly brings light to how strongly we should be waging a campaign for Peace.  What do you think? Here is an excerpt from the Global Zero website: [...]
