Dear Friends,
It was 185 years ago that the original 12 Sisters of Bon Secours founded the Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours in Paris and began ministering to the sick and dying in their homes. Although much has changed over the years, much has remained the same. Today, in the United States, Great Britain, South Africa, Ireland, France and Peru, Sisters with different cultures and languages continue to give compassionate care to all those in need, ministering to the body, mind and spirit. It is fitting then, that this issue of FOCUS centers around prayer, which is the foundation of our lives. We are grounded in prayer; it is who we are and what we do every day and all through our days. Dear Friends,
This is a very special issue of FOCUS centered on the role of spirituality in all phases of our lives. The Sisters have shared with you over the years our mission, our charism, our ministries, our celebrations, and even our hobbies, but through it all there is a common thread—the role of spirituality, both in the lives of the Sisters and those with whom we are associated.
We hope you enjoy reading about how several of our Sisters have developed their spirituality, both those in active ministry as well as our retired Sisters. The core reason for establishing our Spiritual Center was to offer people the opportunity to deepen their spirituality and share companionship on their spiritual journey; this is important as well to our Bon Secours associates, Bon Secours volunteers, and our health system co-workers.
