The Sisters of Bon Secours have released their latest video, A Mission of Hope and Healing in South Africa, to show others the dramatic needs of the South African people. These are people faced with hunger, malnutrition and even starvation. They also suffer from HIV/AIDS and there is an overwhelming population of orphans. The Bon Secours sisters in South Africa provide care to many with these devastating needs while sharing their love of God in everything they do.

Their ministry began in the village of Limpopo, South Africa in June of 2008. In 2010, two sisters from the United States, Sister Vicky Segura, CBS, MD and Sister Elaine Davia, CBS, NP traveled there to assist with medical and nutritional needs. The sisters utilized their medical skills to assist many HIV/AIDS patients and were also able to help refugees, families and orphans with basic needs in the village. They share inspiring stories from their journey in this short video.

In addition to the sisters’ work in their HIV/AIDS clinic and in outreach to the people in the village that continues today, they are now educating young women in the skills they will need to assure income and a brighter future. They currently provide cooking classes for those interested in further cultivating that skill.

The Sisters of Bon Secours answer God’s call globally to help others by defending all life, crying out against injustice and human trafficking, advocating for global solidarity and promoting the preservation of the planet. We invite you to experience this inspiring video that demonstrates the many ways, in one corner of the globe, where the sisters are sharing Jesus’ message with those so much in need.

About the Sisters of Bon Secours: As an international congregation of Catholic sisters they have long had a heart for providing healthcare, social services and spiritual comfort to disadvantaged communities since their inception in 1824 when they nursed the sick in their homes. Today, their holistic approach to caring for all of creation equips the Sisters of Bon Secours to spread wellness and God’s love throughout the four corners of the world. For more information on discerning your vocation or becoming a nun, please visit http://BonSecoursVocations.org, email: CBSVocations@bshsi.org or call 410-442-0267.

Am here in the square of neptune w/ the million for the Pope’s welcome of young adults representing all parts of the world – pretty awesome – they are everywhere in the streets sitting and waving flags and singing and clapping.

I’m no where near where the Pope is in the plaza cibalis. The music is wonderful.

He’s supposed to drive near here tho in his Pope mobile.

Sisters Elena and Rosa came to help at the booth.

We have young women fm France, England, Peru, and USA who have signed up asking for info!! Too bad we aren’t in Australia, Poland, or some of the Asian or other African countries who asked if we were in their countries.

Gotta say there’s nothing like being in a young crowd like this to give u hope for the church.

Even had 2 young doctors fm New Zealand and a pharmacist ask about volunteering in the USA.

Its beastly hot tho – and the booth is outside so it takes a lot of you.

Pope is greeting all – this must be the 10th + language now.

Keep us in prayer that our time here will bring vocations.

Peace, Sr. Pat

U.S. Bishops to Hold Vocations Fair at World Youth Day

WASHINGTON—The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will host its first-ever Vocation Fair at a World Youth Day (WYD) on Wednesday, August 17. The Vocations Fair will be held at St. Francis Borgia Parish (Parroquia San Francisco de Borja) located just across the street from the U.S. Embassy in Madrid. The fair is co-sponsored by the USCCB Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations (CCLV) and the Secretariat for Laity, Marriage, Family Life, and Youth.

“This is a tremendous opportunity to invite our youth to open their hearts to Christ and respond to his call to the priesthood and the consecrated life,” said Archbishop Robert Carlson of St. Louis, Missouri, chairman of the CCLV Committee. Recent surveys of the newly ordained and those making their final religious profession indicate that at least 20 percent of them participated in a World Youth Day at one time or another. “We are very grateful to the pastor, Father José Antonio Vitón, and to the Jesuit community and parishioners at St. Francis Borgia for allowing us to hold the Vocations Fair at their home,” he added.

The fair will open with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Evening Prayer, led by Cardinal Seán O’Malley of Boston, and will continue in the auditorium with featured speakers, opportunities for the youth to interact with bishops and other activities. Read more

“] MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. Sr. Alice M. Talone, CBS, celebrates 50 years with the Sisters of Bon Secours. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pa., Sr. Alice attended St. Colman’s Grade School and Villa Maria Academy and is a graduate of Bon Secours Nursing School in Baltimore. She received a B.S.N. from the University of Pennsylvania and M.A. in pastoral ministry from Trinity College in Washington, D.C.

Sr. Alice has served as a nurse, pastoral associate and patient advocate, working for many years at Bon Secours Hospital in West Baltimore. In the Congregation, she has served as vocation director and, most recently, president of the Sisters of Bon Secours, a position she held until 2009. She is also a member of the Bon Secours Health System’s board of directors and its committees.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours, a religious congregation of Roman Catholic women founded in Paris in 1824, brings compassion, healing and liberation to those it serves, especially those who are sick, suffering, poor or dying. Whether in health care, education or social services, in hospitals, senior care facilities, clinics or parishes, in towns and cities or isolated villages, Bon Secours responds to a universal need: to provide to all who suffer a reason to live and a reason to hope.
