World Youth Day 2011 is 24 days from now. Over a million young people from around the globe will gather as pilgrims in Madrid to celebrate their faith with Pope Benedict. Stop by the Vocation Expo in Parque de Retiro and say hello to Sisters of Bon Secours from 3 of the 7 countries they are in (USA, Peru and South Africa).

Sr. Mary Regina Flatley, CBS, celebrates 60 years with the Sisters of Bon Secours

celebrates jubilee”] MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. Sr. Mary Regina Flatley, CBS, a past president of the Congregation, celebrates 60 years with the Sisters of Bon Secours. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Sr. Mary Regina attended Notre Dame High School in Moylan, Pa. After graduation, she entered the Congregation of Bon Secours and attended Bon Secours School of Nursing. She received her B.S.N. from Villanova and her master’s degree in education with a focus on counseling from the University of Delaware. Sr. Mary Regina also received a certificate in spirituality/spiritual direction from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, Ca.

Sr. Mary Regina has worked as a staff and head nurse at Bon Secours Baltimore Hospital and St. Francis Country House in Darby, Pa. She also was a clinical director in the Bon Secours School of Nursing and served as vice president of mission and associate director at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore.

A past president of the Sisters of Bon Secours, USA, in 1999, Sr. Mary Regina was elected to the Congregational Leadership Team in Paris, France. She retired to Venice, Florida in 2005 upon her return from France and returned to Marriottsville, Maryland in 2010.

The Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours, a religious congregation of Roman Catholic women founded in Paris in 1824, brings compassion, healing and liberation to those it serves, especially those who are sick, suffering, poor or dying. Back from the Dead

Three months ago, the world sat spellbound as Japan tsunami videos made their way to the television news stations and YouTube. Footage was incredible, because the act of nature was cataclysmic. The lives lost, tragic. What once served as home and work for many, in minutes became rubble.

Prayer for Japan

God our Father, you set the earth on its foundation.

Please care for the people of Japan in his time of trial and let them always feel the presence of your love and hope for their future.

We pray especially for those who have died; those who have been injured;
the survivors, especially those who have lost loved ones;
the construction crews, engineers, and laborers who work to rebuild;

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

But the people of Japan have not lost hope in their lives. Their efforts to rebuild are inspirational, and the following article, along with some amazing pictures, depicts a region that has come quite a long way in a mere three months.

Where piles of buildings and vehicles once were, three months ago, NOW are debris-free. Some of the foliage has returned and is in bloom. Many buildings still stand, albiet in ruins, as a reminder of how far the people have come since that tragedy…of how truly blessed they are, and to offer hope of a future.

PLEASE read this article, and say a prayer of continued hope and support for those still suffering from the aftermath of the tsunami.

Today, the Sisters of Bon Secours celebrate the Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. With this prayer, we remember our many blessings and ask for favor where we serve.

Feast of Our Lady Help of Christians

Mary, we come before you as a Congregation dedicated to you,
look favorably on our sisters in all the countries where we serve…
animate us with a loving prayerful spirit,
send generous women to us to help us to extend
the healing work of your Son on earth.
May we be the echo of your “fiat” when God calls upon us.
May we be your goodness to those you wish to aid.
May the Spirit of the Lord help us,
especially in moments of difficulty, to repeat with you,
“Behold the handmaid of the Lord.”

On Good Friday we recall the passion, suffering and death of Jesus. A day of prayer, fasting and reflection, Good Friday is a time for loving remembrance of those who are outcast, alone and neglected.

I look at your dead body on the cross.

One of the soldiers peirces your side with a lance,

and immediately blood and water flow.

Your broken heart is the source of my salvation,

the foundation of my hope, the cause of my love…

Together with all people of all times,

I look up to you whom they have pierced,

and I come to know what it means to be part of your body and your blood,
