Making a Difference in the United States

vickyCatholic Sisters of Bon Secours are addressing pressing needs of people in many arenas – the common denominator is our mission of bringing compassion, healing and liberation. We serve in diverse roles such as nurses, community organizers, administrators, doctors, social workers, chaplains, board directors and presidents, vice-presidents of mission and many other essential, exciting positions. We founded Bon Secours Health System (BSHSI) and play a key role within these health care facilities and programs.

Blessed with a diversity of gifts of the individual members of our religious community, and inspired by our mission, we also serve the very poor and those suffering injustice in the United States. Sisters work in urban or rural areas by providing direct care and hands-on management of programs. You find sisters helping older people stay healthy and connected to their community; developing safe and affordable housing in urban neighborhoods hit hard by poverty and addiction. We are also involved with women and children in need through after-school programs, a center for women in crisis and co-sponsor a middle school for impoverished girls. We also provide help for those suffering from addiction and work with those struggling with immigration issues.

People of all faiths who desire a time of prayer and reflection can receive spiritual direction or make a retreat at our retreat center located on over 300 wooded acres in Marriottsville, Maryland.

Sisters of Bon Secours are also members of UNANIMA, a coalition of Roman Catholic sisters from 16 Congregations dedicated to peace and justice around the world and as a non-governmental organization (NGO) affiliated with the United Nations, we address issues related to women and children, immigration and refugees and welfare of the planet. One of our sisters, Sr. Anne Marie Mack currently serves as Chair of UNANIMA Board of Directors. Addressing human trafficking, we unite with others in bringing compassion, healing and liberation to people whose freedom in life has been taken from them.

We invite you to consider a Catholic religious calling as a nun and contact us if you would like information about our community life and mission. Email or call us at: cbsvocations@bshsi.org (410-442-3172).
