Make Bon Secours GED Participants’ Prom Dream Come True!

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

One of our Bon Secours ministries is asking for your help.  The following is a letter from the Executive Director of Bon Secours of Maryland Foundation.

 Dear Friends of Bon Secours,

On Friday, June 25, 40 young women ages 17 – 21 who are actively pursuing a GED and have demonstrated strong advancement academically will be given the opportunity to attend their prom at the Country Inn Suites in Annapolis.

All of these young women are success stories. While every story is unique, the majority of these young women grew up in foster care, dropped out of school by their freshman year, and have at least one child under the age of 4.

But that’s just the beginning of the story. All of these young women participate in Bon Secours’ Family Support Center which provides GED preparation, parenting and life skills training, case management and counseling, financial planning workshops, and job readiness training. The goal of the Family Support Center is provide young families with the resources to become economically self sufficient and to put them on the path to achieving their career and life goals.

Like the women before them, these young women will achieve a GED, some will enroll in community college, most will find part-time or full time employment and all are on the road to economic self-sufficiency.

Each year through bake sales these young women raised funds to support their attendance to the prom and other family activities. This year, we ask on their behalf to congratulate them on their outstanding efforts to improve their lives.

Won’t you consider supporting these women?  A gift of $25 will buy one ticket to the event while larger donations of $50 or $75 will be used to provide transportation. Perhaps you have a gently used formal dress.  Call Chris Walker at 410.362.3513 to learn more about how your gift can help these young women.

Sincerely,

George Kleb

Executive Director, Bon Secours of Maryland Foundation

They say the opposite of war is not love…it is PEACE.  And I have to say that this video, actually it is a trailer for an independent film, certainly brings light to how strongly we should be waging a campaign for Peace.  What do you think? Here is an excerpt from the Global Zero website: [...]
