Care for body, mind and spirit infused with the strength and hope of God's love

It all began in 1823 when 12 young women joined together to provide compassionate nurturing, care and hope to the sick and dying in Paris. The French Revolution and foreign wars brought tremendous suffering to their French countrymen, and these women worked to ease that suffering. The Sisters of Bon Secours have tirelessly dedicated our lives to reaching out to provide care and support to those in need and to sharing the message that there is a God who loves each of us.

The Mission of the Bon Secours Health System, Inc.

The Mission of Bon Secours Health System is to bring compassion to healthcare and to be good help to those in need, especially the poor and dying.

As a System of caregivers, we commit ourselves to help bring people and communities to health and wholeness as part of the healing ministry of Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church.

Our work seeks to provide care for the complete person – body, mind, and spirit. You'll find us sharing our gifts in healthcare as administrators, doctors, and nurses. You'll find us sharing our gifts in social services by providing low cost housing, special services for children and families, community organization and advocacy, and ministry to the homeless, the poor, and people with AIDS.

We have also created a Spiritual Center with extensive retreat facilities on our campus in beautiful Marriottsville, Maryland where we host more than 125 retreats and programs attended by people from many different faiths each year and provide spiritual direction.

To help us achieve all the work we're called to do, we work closely with our lay co-workers, volunteers, and associates. We have over twenty thousand lay members working with us in our various ministries.
