Who We Are
Sr. Mary Regina Flatley provides a passionate answer: “We are human beings, not perfect people up on a pedestal. We are energized, spiritual women who live out our call and charism taking an active part in a lifelong journey to be like Christ by bringing compassion, healing, and liberation to every person we encounter on our journey—the sisters or women we live with, our neighbors, those we work with, those we meet by chance. We search for and find God in all people.

We all use our gifts— it’s like throwing a stone in the water. The ripples move out and we expand our community. During my years as a sister, I’ve experienced constant growth and learned so much.
The Sisters of Bon Secours today and tomorrow
Bringing wholeness, hope, and the knowledge that God loves each of us unconditionally has been the passion and mission of the Sisters of Bon Secours since our beginnings in the early 1800s in France.
Today, we are an international presence in health care, human, and pastoral services, living and working in six countries. We provide care to all, particularly the poor and powerless, seeing Christ in them while bearing witness to Him through serving others. We are energized by our mission to bring Good Help (Bon Secours) to those in need.
In the United States Province, we continue the essential work our first sisters began more than 180 years ago—working through our extensive health system, providing guidance through our Spiritual Center, and helping children in need with after-school programs, our center for women in crisis, programs to help older people stay healthy and connected to their community, safe and affordable housing in urban neighborhoods hit hard by poverty and addiction to name some of our sponsored ministries.
Together as a community we embrace our charism to heal, to be compassionate and to liberate the potential of each person we meet. We celebrate each sister’s unique talents and views and are united and energized by our active, Christ-centered lives.
Sr. Mary Regina sees an exciting evolution leading the Sisters of Bon Secours towards the future. “We’re developing an international congregation without province boundaries over the next five years in response to the global nature of the world we live in. We will continue to grow in the spirit of service, participation, and collaboration, focusing our resources and efforts on issues of peace, justice, and improving the lives of women and children.”
